Description

What if your new schedule started with the life you actually have instead of the life you think you should be able to manage?

The Create Your Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Lab is a free interactive planning tool designed to help you build a weekly routine based on reality, not pressure or idealized productivity.

Most schedules begin with what you want to accomplish. This tool begins one step earlier by asking you to honestly account for what your life already requires.

You will map your current week, explore how you want your week to feel and function, and then build an aligned schedule that respects your real responsibilities while intentionally moving you toward the life you want to build.

What You’ll Do in the Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Lab

The lab guides you through a three-part process. You will:

  • Complete all seven days of your current weekly schedule
  • Account for work, obligations, caregiving, rest, errands, social time, and open time
  • Map all seven days of the week you would ideally like to have
  • Make room for healthier choices, rest, creativity, structure, or space
  • Compare your current and desired schedules side by side
  • Build a realistic aligned schedule for the entire week
  • Review your complete aligned week in one place
  • Download an editable copy of your reflection

Start With Your Current Life

Before you redesign your routine, you need an accurate picture of what your life already asks of you.

The first section helps you map your week as it actually exists right now.

For each day, you will look at six time periods:

Early Morning: 4:00 AM–6:00 AM
Morning: 6:00 AM–12:00 PM
Midday: 12:00 PM–1:00 PM
Afternoon: 1:00 PM–5:00 PM
Evening: 5:00 PM–8:00 PM
Night: 8:00 PM–12:00 AM

The lab requires you to work through all seven days before moving forward. If a time period is intentionally open, you can simply mark it as Open / unscheduled.

Map Your Desired Life

Once your current week is visible, the second section asks you to imagine how you want your week to feel and function. Maybe you want more rest, more time to exercise, or more time for your relationships.

Build Your Aligned Life

The final planning section brings your Current Life and Desired Life together. This interactive lab shows your responses side by side as you build your third schedule.

Why Complete the Entire Week?

A routine can look completely different on Tuesday than it does on Saturday. That matters.

You may notice that certain days are overloaded. Or you may find that the rest you keep trying to add has nowhere realistic to go.

You may discover open space you were not using intentionally. Or you may realize that the issue is not poor time management at all. Your week may simply be carrying more than you have been accounting for.

Seeing the full week helps you design from reality.

Who Is This Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Tool For?

This free lab may be helpful if you create routines that are difficult to maintain, feel like your schedule only works on your best weeks, want more structure without becoming rigid, need a clearer picture of where your time goes, or want to make more intentional room for rest, creativity, health, relationships, or personal priorities.

It may also be useful if you are balancing work with caregiving or other responsibilities, entering a new season of life, feeling pulled between obligations and personal needs, or trying to create a routine that feels more sustainable.

How the Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Lab Works

01. My Current Life

02. My Desired Life

03. My Aligned Life

Compare your Current Life and Desired Life responses and create a third schedule that integrates both reality and intention.

04. Review My Week

See your entire aligned Monday-through-Sunday schedule together and download your reflection.

A Free Weekly Planning Tool With No Score

The Create Your Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Lab is not a productivity test.

There is no score and there is no single correct routine.

Completing every day does not mean filling every hour with activity. Open and unscheduled time belongs in a realistic schedule too.

The lab simply makes sure you intentionally consider the entire week rather than accidentally designing around only the easiest days.

Your responses autosave in your browser while you work. You can revise your entries as you move through the process.

At the end, you can download an editable copy of your reflection.

Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Lab in Therapy

Therapists, counselors, social workers, and other mental health professionals may choose to use the lab as a supplemental reflection or planning exercise when clinically appropriate.

It may support conversations around work-life balance, burnout, time use, rest and recovery, life transitions, caregiving, competing responsibilities, values, behavioral activation, capacity, boundaries around time, lifestyle alignment, and sustainable routine development.

Looking at Current Life, Desired Life, and Aligned Life side by side can also make discrepancies more concrete. For example, someone may recognize that the routine they keep struggling to maintain requires significantly more time or energy than their actual week contains.

That creates useful material for further reflection and collaborative planning.

The Create Your Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Lab is an educational and self-reflective tool. It is not a validated psychological assessment and does not replace individualized psychotherapy, diagnosis, treatment, or clinical judgment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ideal lifestyle schedule?

In this lab, an ideal lifestyle schedule is not a perfect or maximally productive routine. It is a weekly schedule that accounts for your real responsibilities while intentionally making room for the life you want to build.

Why do I start with my current schedule?

Because planning without accounting for what already exists can create routines that are difficult to sustain.

Your Current Life gives you the reality that the rest of the process builds from.

What should I include in My Current Life?

Include what your week actually contains: work, obligations, caregiving, rest, errands, social time, routines, recurring responsibilities, and open time.

Do I need to complete every day?

Yes.

The interactive lab guides you through all seven days so your final schedule reflects your entire week rather than only a few days.

Do I have to schedule something in every time block?

You need to respond to every block, but you do not have to fill every part of your life with activity.

If a period is intentionally free, enter Open / unscheduled.

Does My Desired Life have to be realistic?

Not immediately.

The Desired Life section is where you identify how you would like your week to feel and function before you begin negotiating those preferences with your existing responsibilities.

What is My Aligned Life?

Your Aligned Life is the schedule you build after comparing your Current Life with your Desired Life.

It is meant to respect what your life currently requires while intentionally moving you toward what you want to create.

Can therapists use this tool with clients?

Yes. Mental health professionals may use it as a supplemental educational or reflection exercise when clinically appropriate.

It is not a validated assessment and does not replace individualized treatment or clinical judgment.

Is the Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Lab free?

Yes. Create Your Ideal Lifestyle Schedule Lab / 006 is a free Mental Retune interactive tool.

Build a Week You Can Actually Live

You need a clearer picture of what your life already requires, what matters enough to make room for, and what kind of structure can realistically support both.

Build a week that fits your life instead of forcing your life to fit the schedule.
