EMDR Therapy in Miami

Some things don’t resolve through talking alone.

You can understand exactly why you feel the way you do, trace it back to the moment it started, name the pattern, explain it clearly, and still feel it just as strongly. That’s how trauma and deeply held stress work. They live in the body, not just the mind.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) was designed specifically for this. It’s one of the most extensively researched therapy approaches available, and it works differently than traditional talk therapy. Rather than focusing on articulating an experience, EMDR helps your nervous system reprocess it, so the memory or belief loses its charge and no longer runs the show.

What EMDR Actually Treats

Most people associate EMDR with trauma, and that’s accurate. But trauma isn’t always a single dramatic event. For many high-achieving professionals and creatives, it shows up as:

  • Chronic anxiety that doesn’t respond to logic or insight
  • A persistent belief that you’re not enough, no matter how much you accomplish
  • Emotional reactivity that feels disproportionate to what’s happening now
  • Burnout that goes deeper than rest can fix
  • Patterns you’ve identified in therapy but can’t seem to shift

If you’ve done significant therapy work and still feel stuck in the same place, EMDR may be the piece that’s been missing.

What Sessions Look Like

EMDR is structured and methodical. We don’t begin processing until the groundwork is in place, which means the early sessions focus on building stability, understanding your history, and identifying the specific targets we’ll work on together.

When active processing begins, sessions involve bilateral stimulation (typically guided eye movements or tapping) while you hold a targeted memory, image, or belief in mind. The process is customized to what your nervous system can handle. You remain in control throughout the whole process.

Sessions are 50 minutes, self-pay, and available in person in North Miami or virtually throughout Florida.

This May Be A Good Fit If You:

  • Have tried talk therapy and feel like you’ve hit a ceiling
  • Carry anxiety or self-doubt that feels bigger than your circumstances warrant
  • Know intellectually that something isn’t your fault but can’t feel it
  • Want a structured, evidence-based approach with a clear process
  • Are ready to do deeper work, not just manage symptoms

EMDR is offered as part of individual therapy at Mental Retune. Sessions are integrated with your overall treatment, not a standalone service.

FAQ:

Is EMDR only for PTSD?

EMDR was originally developed for trauma and PTSD, but the research has expanded significantly. It’s now used effectively for anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, and the kind of deeply held negative beliefs such as, “I’m not enough,” “I’m a burden,” “I have to earn my worth”, that tend to drive a lot of the patterns people bring to therapy. If a belief is stuck even after years of insight work, EMDR is often worth exploring.

How many EMDR sessions will I need?

There’s no universal answer, because it depends on what we’re targeting and how your nervous system responds. Some people notice meaningful shifts in a handful of sessions. Others work on EMDR processing over several months as part of longer-term therapy. We assess this together as we go.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. One of the things that makes EMDR different from traditional talk therapy is that you don’t need to narrate the experience in depth. You hold it in mind while we work through the processing protocol. Some clients find this a significant relief, especially those who have talked about their history extensively before.
